If you are experiencing extreme distress or feeling suicidal and need urgent support, please contact your GP immediately and ask for an emergency appointment. You can also get in touch with the Samaritans on 116 123, or attend your nearest Accident and Emergency Department.
If your GP surgery is not open, you can contact the NHS Out of Hours Medical Service on 111. NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day throughout the calendar year. Phone calls are free from land lines and mobile phones. You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it’s not a life-threatening situation. If you feel an urge to harm yourself or others – please go straight to your nearest Accident and Emergency.
Worried about others?
If you are concerned that someone is emotionally unstable and might be suicidal, please encourage them to contact their GP and arrange for an emergency appointment. As an alternative, you might wish to encourage them to contact the Samaritans on 116 123.
If you are worried that someone is about to hurt either themselves or someone else, you might wish to accompany them to attend the nearest Accident and Emergency Department. Alternatively, you can also contact the Police on 999.
